CASAGRANDE & HANYSZ II

New project for Casagrande & Hanysz, the amazing instrumental metal band from Brazil. The new album is entitled “Liminal” and they sent me concepts, words and random thoughts about the album, such as “Between the end and the brief moment that precedes the end, purgatory, labyrinth, sacrifice, sun outside”. I love working with these mixed ideas and putting everything together into an unifying concept.

So, they final concept for the album was heavily inspired from the myth of Icarus, who was trapped in a labyrinth, and his pursuit of the highest desire symbolized by the sun. This myth holds both mundane implications, reflecting human desires and quests, as well as transcendent concepts such as the pursuit of enlightenment, completeness, or God. Nonetheless, every desire and choice entails sacrifice; whether it's time and effort or sacrificing our old selves, our ego, to reach that ideal. This notion aligns with the concept of purgatory, where we burn away everything that obstructs our path to God or the ideal.

The pivotal moment between pursuit and attainment is what I aimed to depict on the cover. Icarus facing the sun, burning, and preparing to meet it. The plucked flowers echo the same concept, symbolizing the sacrifice of life for the ideal (beauty).
