The Surrender Of Cupid (2019)

In this work I interpreted the myth of Cupid and Psyche as the integration of the unconscious (Cupid) with the conscious (Psyche). The myth tells us that cupid was a mischievous child that causes trouble with his arrows (unconscious thoughts). Cupid falls in love with psyche, but keeps his identity hidden from her at night (dreams). So, Psyche curious decides to light a lamp in order to see him, but Cupid becomes angry and flees (the pain of knowing ourselves). Later, they are reunited and their love recognised.

This piece is about the surrender of Cupid, or the unconscious mind giving/revealing itself to the conscious mind. Psyche is now seated on Cupid's throne and slowly the invisible form of cupid is being revealed to her.

Psyche holds a flower which symbolises the promise of love after union. The background colors are a representation of Psyche during into the waters of the unconscious.
