Surrender Everything (2012)

One thing that bothered me much was reading or hearing big words such as “Surrender Yourself” to God without any explanation of what it really meant. It's not as if we can lift and wave a little white flag to God. I also don't believe that surrendering ourselves to God means an intellectual act of faith like “let thy will be done” and remaining passive watchers of our destiny.

So, what does it mean to surrender ourselves? It is letting go of any resistance towards finding our true nature. If the mind is thinking, let go of all thoughts. It is not something we do; it is something we cease to do. It's like falling asleep at night. We cannot force ourselves into sleeping, but we can let go of any resistance towards sleeping, and sleep will come on its own accord.

God is at the door and knocking; all we have to do is not keep pushing that door closed. Metaphors aside, that door is “ourselves,” our Ego. As long as we are in control of our thoughts, feelings, and desires, we keep that door shut by force. Surrender means that we will stop applying force to keep that door closed. Meditation and/or prayer are exactly this. We cease to think and talk and surrender ourselves to the divine. He reveals Himself in our silence, in our surrender.

Hence, in the artwork, the man is surrendering all his kingdom riches, and his crown (authority/Ego) is thrown on the ground.
